As a full time RV family we have found what works in the kitchen and more importantly, what doesn’t!

Small space living is definitely a learned skill. We thought we knew what we wanted and needed before transitioning to the RV full time. We had read books and watched plenty of YouTube videos on small space advice. So in our imagination we had it all worked out and of course we believed we were experts. Yeah right!

We have put together a list of our favorite RV and small space kitchen gadgets! Some of these are absolutely essential for our daily life and others are small luxury but all are pure awesome!

1: The best way to handle dishes!

I should start with a disclaimer that we are a family of 4 and dishes pile up fast. We don’t have a dishwasher so it is up to us to stay on top of it.

We tried multiple products to help us with the chore of daily dishes and we have settled on this AWESOME over the sink dish rack!

This guy is perfect for us. It has suction cup feet to keep it secure to the counter and as we wash dishes and set them in the rack and they will drip back into the sink! We will also use this rack for produce storage when we visit the farm stands!

2: Multi use appliances.

By now I’m sure you’ve heard of the Instant Pot. Yep, we had one too. But, we also found a love for the Air Fryer. The problem was we didn’t have room for both of these awesome appliances.

Then, we found the Ninja Foodi! This little beast of an appliance is a pressure cooker and an air fryer in one. The Ninja Foodi will also slow cook, sauté, and steam. They don’t advertise it but we also use it as a frying pan for eggs and grilled cheese!

The Ninja Foodi does not leave our counter and we use it almost everyday! By the way it makes GREAT home made french fries!

3. The counter top Ice Maker.

Most RV’s do not have an ice maker built into the refrigerator.

Yes, you can use ice cube trays but for us, that was never enough and we would rather use the freezer space for food!

There’s not much to say about this device. It does EXACTLY what is says it will do. It creates ice every 7 minutes and will produce up to 28lbs of ice daily!

4. Little Snowie 2, snow cone maker.

Que, gasps now! Yes, this one applies mostly to families with small kids and is, of course, a luxuary!

Hold on, listen to the reasoning!

We spend most of our time in the warmer zones and we are VERY plastic conscience. Carter and Ella (our kiddos) both love Popsicles especially those type that come in the plastic tube. We realized the amount of plastic waste we were creating from those treats was outrageous!

Our solution to this issue was a snow cone machine! The Little Snowie 2 is perfect! They love it. Grab some ice from our counter top ice maker and hold a bowl under the spout. 3 seconds later, you have perfect fluffy snow.

We use the natural syrup concentrates sold by Little Snowie as well!

5: The best Coffee!!

We tend to be a little picky about coffee and we have found the best way to brew coffee for us is a simple pour over.

We did have a Keurig for a while but it caused enourmous amounts of plastic waste. We tried the re-usuable k-cup that you fill with your own coffee but we were not satisfied and it took up too much counter space.

We decided to go to an electric kettle to boil water and a glass and stainless pour over system!

We use the electric kettle for many things, including coffee, oatmeal, Couscous, quinoa, grits and more! We love, multi-use appliances!

6: The Commercial Restaurant French Fry cutter!

Yessss!! This is absolutely essential.

We are a tad bit on the crunchy side of the isle and I (Corey) have a strange food allergy to nitrites. All commercial produced potatoes are covered in nitrites as a preservative which makes them off limits for me… unless I am feeling in the mood for a rash! We’ve been sorting out this food allergy for about a year now and potatoes have been a bit of a comfort food.

When we bought the Ninja Foodi and learned we could make our own french fries, the clouds parted and the sun shined through. When we grew tired of chopping fries ourselves by hand, it was time to invest in another quality piece of equipment. We use this device for french fries, home fries, sweet potato fries as well as zucchini and other squash. Yes, its big and you have to be creative to store it but for us it is a game changer!
