ClearSource - Clean, Safe Water for RV living
We are so happy that we have the Clearsource Water Filtration system! When we started full-time RV living clean, safe drinking water was very important to us. Having read several news stories about bad water in camp grounds including e-coli and Giardia cyst contamination and we didn’t want to take any chances! Most RV’ers use the blue torpedo type filters which only offer large particle filtration and a false sense of security. We did our research and settled on the Clearsource water filtration system. They have several systems to choose from serving both RV and Marine needs! Near the end of this post we have a coupon link to save you $25.00 or more off your new Clearsource water filtration system!
We chose the 2 stage Clearsource RV water filter system. The Clearsource caddy is designed to sit on the ground and run in-line with the water hose to your RV. The first filter will remove larger particles measuring down to 5.0 microns and the second filter will remove the fine particles down to 0.5 microns. We have found this system is perfect for our needs!
When we were doing a research we looked at many different options. As stated above the torpedo type filters are by far the most common. You will see these everywhere in campgrounds! The biggest issue we identified with the blue torpedo filters is they do a very poor job filtering the water! The micron rating is 20.0 microns and for a full time RV family like us, they are only good for about 2 months! This is a product that is not biodegradable at all! We hated the idea of throwing it out every 2 months and adding to the plastic crisis!
We also considered going to Home Depot or Lowe's to put together our own version of the Clearsource filter. The idea was to purchase a couple of residential type filter housing's and use them with specialty filters. While this would work in concept the issue was this would be a difficult DIY project and the end result would look messy and be awkward to manage. The Clearsource water filter systems have designed there system to be compact and very user-friendly! The housing is unique to the industry and comes in a powder coated or stainless steel option! The filter canisters are much more robust than the typical residential filters sold at the big box stores.
Another common filter that we considered was the Berkey filter. Wow! This filter does an amazing job and has many options to accommodate the types of water you might encounter on the road. However, it had many drawbacks for us. The first drawback was it takes up valuable countertop space. In the RV, countertop space is very limited and we try to find ways to maximize it. Also, the Berkey filter is basically intended to filter your drinking water and cooking water only. It would not filter the water coming out of your tap, especially in the shower or bathroom. Unfiltered tap water means a potential for contaminated water exposure, such as when brushing your teeth or showering!
Clearsource was the clear choice for us… wink wink pun intended!
Clearsource also have a 3 stage filter systems and multiple varieties of filters to cover your specific water filtration needs. For example, rusty water or sulfur rich water. They even offer a Deionizing filter which is intended to help reduce water spots on your RV from washing.
We have been using the Clearsource filter system now for about a year and we are exceedingly happy with it. Our water tastes great and we love the peace of mind that all of the water coming into our RV is safe for consumption.
